Notes from 1/12/12 Meeting
Home School Association Meeting
(January 12, 2012 @ 6pm)
Attendance: Sister Patricia, Melissa, Ray, Angela, Shannon, Deb, Heather
President’s Report:
Treasurer’s Report:
- Ordered tri-fold boards and ink for teachers for the boards for Open House to put outside their rooms
- About $8000 in the checking account and $2300 in the savings
- Sister wants to transfer the account to Keybank with the rest of the accounts for school
- Make sure there are no outstanding checks before we withdraw the money and close the account at First Niagara
Committee Reports:
- Open House- refreshments for January 29th and people to answer questions from the HSA (Ray, Shannon, and Heather will be there)
New Business:
- Pasta Dinner- March 3rd 4-7pm
- Get out to stores this weekend asking for donations
- Announcements need to be in the bulletin by Tuesdays
- Donations; Jen- bread, Glen- salad, Angela- sauce, Ray-Pepsi
- Other places to go may be Ryan’s Produce and Deli Warehouse
2. Bottle Drive
- One day from 12-2pm and can drop off in parking lot
- Check church calendar
- Do on April 21st or 28th when donations are coming in for the garage sale on May 5th
- April 28th- Sister will ask Father if it is alright to do it then
- Melissa check with place behind Little Anthony’s if they charge a fee- no they do not and if you ask for a receipt, they will put the number of bottles on it for you
- Maybe borrow Pete’s truck that day and other people with trucks
3. Field Day- Melissa spoke to coach and informed him of it (Teachers and Coach are excited about it)
- Paul and Sister to pick 2 dates in June or the end of May
- Not to interfere with exams or graduations
- Shannon will try to get information on Bleeker Stadium to use
- HSA will sponsor the lunch and snack for the day
- Check about Bounce services
4. Student Council Update
- Pep rally on 1/13 @ 2:00- Student Council planned it
- Working on the mascot design, putting some ideas from each drawing
- Ray suggested a painting on the wall in the gym of the mascot done by the eighth graders and the art students from St. Rose
- Sister said a banner would be better and it is about $100 to but- scan picture and send it to the company
- Student council will sell 50/50 tickets at the games this Sunday
5. Concerns of HSA
- Parking lot was full of ice- 2nd time this year
- Filth and garbage under the bleechers- told by other schools to Shannon and it is embarrassing
- Coach cleaned it up and is trying to keep it cleaned
Upcoming Events!!!
Please support our PASTA DINNER on MARCH 3rd from 4-7 pm in the school gym.Prices will follow. This event helps us to plan student events for the end of the school year. Thanks again for your support. We hope to see you there!
Upcoming Events
11/16- Barnes and Noble Bookfair
11/22 Holiday Social- Raffle for the $1000 gift card to Colonie Center will be drawn. Come and spread some cheer! Enjoy something to drink and a little bite to eat. 6-8pm and drawing will be at 7:30. You do not need to be present to win.
12/15-12/16 Holiday Kids Shop- students buy gifts for family and friends. If anyone is able to volunteer their time for either day it would be appreciated.
Annual Book Cover Contest
At Barnes and Noble on Wednesday, November 16th, we will be giving out prizes for the best book cover.
Groups:
Grades K-4 and 5-8
The winner from each group will receive two movie tickets.
What to do?
Design a book cover. Include the title of the book and illustrations. Be as creative as you want. Remember you want us to buy your “book”.
All entries must be submitted to Mrs. Parker by Wednesday morning.

Barnes and Noble Bookfair
We are having our annual bookfair at Barnes and Noble. We had it set for November so that we could think about buying Christmas gifts there. It would help you out and also the school. We get 10,000 points towards school bucks and also all the money spent is credited directly to the customer service for school bucks (no turning in Barnes and Noble receipts).
Wednesday, November 16, 2011 @ Colonie Center
You can shop all day and just let them know that you want it to go towards Blessed Sacrament School.
We will have a table set up from 3-7pm.
If you and/ or your child come, please sign in at the table so that your child can have a dress down day. If their name is not on the list, they will be asked to call home and get uniform clothes.
Can’t attend the bookfair on Wednesday? That’s okay. You can order online from 11/16- 11/21. At checkout, just enter Bookfair ID 10602910.
A percent of the proceeds go to our school. Come out and support your school and buy some Christmas gifts while you are there!
Raffle Fundraiser
We have started our Raffle to win a $1000 gift card to Colonie Center, just in time for Black Friday shopping!
There will only be 200 tickets sold. They are $25 a ticket.
It will run from 10/17- 11/22. At the First Annual Holiday Social , on 11/22, the winner will be chosen (winner does not have to be present to win).
You may give your money and ticket to Mrs. Albright or send it to the school addressed to the Home School Association.

Blessed Sacrament School HSA Notes from 10/11/11 meeting
Sister Patricia gave an overview of what the Home School Association is. The survey conveyed that most people did not know what it was or what we did. It is similar to a PTA in other schools, but that is what the Catholic comunity calls theirs.
- fundraising funds go to the HSA if theya re the ones organizing it
- special events for the students ex: planetarium inside the gym that came in the past
- Graduation supplies
- Need parents to help by giving their input and support
Fundraisers:
- Applebees’ breakfast was a success. We made over $600 with the 50/50 and donations. We only had to pay $1 a plate.
- Community builder fundraisers are our focus. getting away from the catalogs
Draft Budget:
- Raffle $25 ticket to win $1000 GC to Colonie Center to start 10/17- offer to the parish
- Pasta dinner
- Barnes and Nobles- not a date yet, looking at November so that people can get Christmas gifts
- Holiday Shop- done for the kids (10% we make we send to the Food Pantry)
These are the main fundraisers with community builders in between.
- Graduation supplies
- Teacher gifts and appreciation for their work
- Main events for the students
Student council Rep- Gabriella Crisafulli was there.
- showed how HSA and Student Council will be working together this year
- Increase School spirit and pride in the school
- Create a mascot for the school- box at the Family Festival to put down ideas for a mascot
- Spirit Week- at the end of the week the mascot will be reveiled
- Design contest for the students to design the mascot with our school color
Ideas from parents and teachers for fundraising:
- CiCi Pizza
- Ninety Nine
- Ruby Tuesday- does it for three days and all you have to do is bring in the flyer so the school gets credit
- Outback Steakhouse
- Cultural Night- Pot Luck Dinner and Fashion Show
Title I Parent Night:
- $600 to spend
- cyberbullying workshop
- food along with a presentation
- break into sessions (ELA, Math, etc.)
- Door prizes to get attendance up
- Serve pizza or ice cream, etc.
Parents were asked to sign up for a committee and Shannon will organize committees. There will be a board member on each committee to over see it. The committees are Fundraising, Special events, Social events.
Also it was brought up that maybe HSA could send teachers to workshops that they may be interested in.
Next open meeting in January. At the April open meeting we will be taking nominations forthe upcoming year becasue some member sof the board will be going off.
